National slalom championship - L'Argentière La Bessée, France

As every years on July there's the National slalom championship.
This year we've to come in L'Argentière La Bessée on July 6th to 12th.

The program was simple, we do our oficial training on the slalom course every day and all the rest of our time we go on the river of the region.

Monday:
We start easy the morning on the Guil river with Alex Dimitriou and Eric Deguil. We had a good water level and it's a real pleasure to enjoy this beautiful alpine jewel!!

Eric in the Combe of Chateau Queras.

Tuesday:
Early in the morning we go on the Lower Guisanne with some guys from Pau.
A little and easy ride to be ready for a good day!!

Julien on the Lower Guisanne

The crew: Val, Olivier, Eric, Julien and Thomas

Wednesday:
We start early again to enjoy again just before our training on the slalom course.
So, Eric and I were very motivated on the water and we did Chateau Queras - La Triple Chute (triple falls) in 30 minutes...

Rico in the Triple falls on the Guil river

Val in the rapid of Milenium

Thursday:

After our training Raph Thiebaut took Eric and I on the "secret spot" on the Fournel river and I've to say you it's crazy and funny over there!!
The evening I go in Briancon at Raph's home to enjoy a good dinner and the evening

A little photo soon...

Friday:
It was race day for the kayak men, so Raph, Eric and I go again on the river.
This time we paddle the rapid of Malafosse near Briancon.
Raph knows this rapid as he knows is pocket or his photo camera and he paddles over there often.
We had a little look at the rapid and let's paddle this steep section

Raph goes big on his home spot

On the slalom course, Hugo Cailhol takes finally his place on the 2nd spot in Junior K1 after lot of years with some problems.

Bastien Salamé paddle again the slalom courses but he doesn't paddle well to realize a good race, too bad, take it easy buddy!!

Saturday:
It's now my turn to paddle on the slalom course of L'Argentière, and I may say you it's was a real pleasure for me to be on the river and go big for this race and finish 2nd C1 senior at the first run.
Its was probably my best race memory and my best sensations in slalom!!

Unfortunately, I didn't do the same thing at the second run, and the judges gave a hard and delicate 50 seconds penalty and I finally finish 37th... too bad...

Val

Annaelle Meheut

Estelle Mangin 3rd in junior K1 woman

Val 2nd run

Laure Udari vice national champion in junior K1 woman

Sunday:
It was the team races day, this year we have the great chance to have a team at my club MJC Rodez Canoe Kayak with Pierrik Gaudin, Hugo Cailhol and I.

We really enjoyed our 2 runs, and it was so good to do this race with 2 duddies!!
We finally finish 18th at the National championship by Team.

The start

Pierrik, Val and Hugo

It was for me a great week with some great creekboating and slalom, too bad my slalom races ended bad but it's the game!!
It was my last race in C1 and I'll probably concentrate myself on the creekboating and don't worry I'll already train in slalom but with a kayak.

New ways are opening for me and for sure it will be more and more steep than a slalom course!! ;-)

Many thanks to all of you were support me in C1 slalom, I really enjoyed it and I had great times!!

Zarbi Rodeo 2009 - Saint Pierre de Boeuf, France

Probably the craziest freestyle competition I ever see!!!!!!
The Zarbi Rodeo was organized in Saint Pierre de Boeuf (near Lyon) on July 3rd, 4th and 5th.

Why "Zarbi"??
Because it's the upside down word of "bizarre".
In France we (the youths) use these kind of words often.

All starts Friday evening with a great concert of Karlit et Kabok, Hugo Boxx (beat box), DJs and everybody has to dress up.

The weekend starts pretty well!!

Our Fluid boats look good no??

Stefun Pion

The main goal of the event was already to organize a freestyle kayak competition.
For sure, the bog hole-wave of Saint Pierre de Boeuf was strong for all kayakers and the best paddlers go big and make a great show!!

Léo Carpène, the best french-gabonese

David Arnaud version Silverstone Stalone

Mat Coldebella

Mat Dumoulin

Congrats to the 3 organizers Mat Dumoulin, Sock Ao and Mat Coldebella for all the good job they did to make a unforgettable first edition and I guess it works very well!! ;-)

As every year, the sunday is the dau of the Boater Cross.
I stay at the doors of the finals with a very hard semi final where I can't achieve to paddle at my level... I'll think when it's not steep I can't go big!!

Mat Coldebella goes back home with his trophy, congrats!!

I'll go back at the Natural Games next year for sure, more for the permanent show and the atmosphere than the competition.

Congratulations to the organization for this beautiful event!!
Congrats also to all the kayakers for the show!!

See you next year!!
